I completed the Certificate in Teaching Aquaphobics in Autumn 2022 to become an Aquaphobia coach. Aquaphobia coaches are qualified to teach water phobic people or timid swimmers.

As many as 1 in 3 adults in the UK are non confident swimmers. There are many reasons adults are non swimmers. Sometimes they have suffered from bad experiences in the water or they lacked opportunities to learn to swim as a child.
Many adults believe they have missed their chance to learn to swim. It is never too late to learn to swim and enjoy the freedom of being in water.

The Aquaphobia Learning Programme is a 12-stage step approach to support those with a fear of water, providing them with the confidence, skills and techniques to enjoy being in water.

The programme focuses on eliminating and desensitising fear as a priority before moving on the the mechanics of swimming. Before you can learn to swim you must be able to be relaxed and happy in the water. By reducing the stresses and learning to feel comfortable and in control in the water you will be able to learn how to swim.

Coming to learn to swim at Swim Against the Flow will be tailored to your needs. I will gently encourage you to try new things, but everything is done at your own pace. The practices are progressive to build your skills as your confidence in the water grows. There is no timescale or pressures on you to move to advance through the stages, each course is tailored to the individual's personal needs.

Being in a private pool away from other swimmers in a calm, quiet environment will suit many nervous swimmers. The pool is 1.2m deep so you will never be out of your depth. The pool is warm and small so less daunting than many public pools.

The introductory session will be 1 hour where before we enter the water we would complete a questionnaire to assess your level of fear of the water so I know any triggers, or what you are comfortable with. For follow on sessions I recommend 45 minutes for adults learning to become comfortable in the water and learning to swim.
The first session will be £40 and
follow on 45 minute lessons are £33.

Please get in contact if you would like to know further details, or to book your introductory session. Take your first step towards being able to enjoy the pleasures of the water.
